Kim Wilde

Kim Wilde (born Kim Smith; 18 November 1960) is an English pop singer, author, DJ and television presenter. She first saw success in 1981 with her debut single "Kids in America", which reached number two in the UK. In 1983, she received the Brit Award for Best British Female solo artist. In 1986, she had a UK number two hit with a reworked version of the Supremes' song "You Keep Me Hangin' On", which also topped the US Billboard Hot 100 in 1987.

 

Between 1981 and 1996, she had 25 singles reach the Top 50 of the UK singles chart. Her other hits include "Chequered Love" (1981), "You Came" (1988) and "Never Trust a Stranger" (1988). In 2003, she collaborated with Nena on the song "Anyplace, Anywhere, Anytime", which topped the Dutch charts.

 

Worldwide, Wilde has sold over 10 million albums and 20 million singles. She holds the record for being the most-charted British female solo act of the 1980s, with seventeen UK Top 40 hit singles. Starting in 1998, while still active in music, she has branched into an alternative career as a landscape gardener, which has included presenting gardening shows on the BBC and Channel 4. In 2005, she won a Gold award for her courtyard garden at the Royal Horticultural Society’s Chelsea Flower Show.

Kim Wilde embarked on her first live dates in Denmark in September 1982, and then in October / November 1982 a European tour followed.

 

The tour started on October 5, 1982 at the Colston Hall in Bristol (UK) and finished on November 16, 1982 in Roma, Antwerp (Belgium).

 

Kim's band during this tour consisted of Steve Byrd (guitar), Trevor Murrell (drums), Ricky Wilde (keyboards, guitar), Gary Barnacle(saxophone & flute), Graham Pleath (keyboards, guitar), Mark Heyward Chaplin (bass), Lynne Jones (background vocals) and Gaynor Wild (background vocals).

Tour Programme

Kim Wilde's second tour took place in November and December 1983.

 

Although she'd done a European tour the year before, this was the first time she appeared in Germany. There were no dates in the UK this time.

 

The tour started on November 26, 1983 at the Palais d'Hiver in Lyon (France) and ended on December 10, 1983 at the Nobelhallen in Karlskoga (Sweden).

 

Kim's band during this tour consisted of Steve Byrd (bass), Mark Heyward Chaplin (guitar, keyboards), Richard Blanshard (sax, flute), Kevin McAlea (keyboards, guitar), Boris Williams (percussion & drums).

Fan Club Newsletter

In September 1981 Kim Wilde sent out her first proper Newsletter for her fans who had signed up to her Fan Club.

 

There was an Interductory Issue which has Two Different Front Covers.

 

The last Newsletter was dated as Christmas 1997.
