TV Choice Magazine

Since the beginning of the 70's there was sustained pressure on the UK Goverment to force Broadcasters to make their Schedules available to independent publishers so that they could produce their own listings magazine.  This would not come into effect for quite some time as deregulation of the TV Listings did not come into force until 1991.

Radio Times and TV Times were the dominant forces of the TV Listings in the UK.  Then came along TV Choice.  Launched by Michael Storey on the 5th November 1982 the magazine claimed to be the first to provide full listings for all four channels.

In reality it tried to circumvent the copyright law by using guesswork to predict the programmes that each channel would show.  There were inaccuracies and blank spaces where the publishers could not decide what movies would be in the schedule for ecxample.

Independant Publishers - owners of TV Times and BBC Publications - owners of Radio Times, took TV Choice to court claiming that the publication breached their copyright thus forcing the publication to be suspended in January 1983.  TV Choice then revamped and dropped it's TV Listings and became a monlthy TV Magazine in March 1983.  However this did not last long and TV Choice eventually vanished without trace.

In 1999 German publisher H. Bauer revived the title using it as a low priced listings magazine which is still running today.
