1979 Poll Winners
Smash Hits published a 'Poll Voting Form' for the first time in the 7th February 1980 issue of Smash Hits.
The Voting Form was to be used to ask the readers what their favourites from for the year 1979.
The Poll had 12 catagories such as Favourite Band, though to the Bore Of The Year.
Even though this was the first time that Smash Hits had carried out a Poll Winners Poll, this one would be largely ignored in subsequent years. The Poll Winners Results that were printed at the end of 1980 was always considered as the First Poll Winners Results when each year continued. However this was the first time that the magazine had carried out a Poll of what their readers thought.
The results were published in the 20th March 1980 issue of the magazine.

2 - Best Male Singer
3 - Best Female Singer
4 - Brightest Hope For 1980
5 - Best Single Of The Year
6 - Worst Single Of The Year
7 - Best Album Of The Year
8 - TV Programme Of The Year
9 - Best DJ / Radio Show Of The Year
10 - Most Fanciable Person Of The Year
11 - Twerp Of The Year
12 - Bore Of The Year
