Smash Hits had been increasing in popularity since it's launch at the end of 1978. Throughout it's first year the magazine started to have giveaways in the form of Pop Wall Chart Poster, Badges and Stickers as well as a Green Transparent Plastic Wallet.

 

These were all things that you collected Tokens for and sent off.

 

However things began to change.

 

Issue 22, which was on sale from 4th October - 17th October 1979, had the first Flexi Disc to be given away with the magazine.  In fact this Flexi-Disc was the first thing that the magazine gave away without having to collect tokens and send off for.

 

The Green Flexi-Disc was a single sided disc and had a brand new Squeeze recording entitled 'Wrong Way,'.

 

Recorded and given away exclusively for Smash Hits Readers, 'and not available anywhere else on Planet Earth', as stated on the Flexi Disc.
