Smash Hits - 1987 Sticker Book (Panini) (Complete).jpg
Smash Hits -Issue 216 - 11th March - 24th March 1987.jpg

Smash Hits produced a Sticker Book that was given away free in the 11th March - 24th March 1987 issue.  The same issue also came with a free set of 5 stickers to start the readers into collecting the stickers required to complete the book.

The following issue 25th March - 7th April also came free with another Pack Of 5 Stickers.

Each sticker measured approx. 4" x 3" in size and came with a peel off backing with a picture of an artist or band on the front.  On the back of each sticker was a short biography of the artist or band on the front.

This was the Fourth Sticker Book that Smash Hits published.

Produced for the Smash Hits Magazine and Distributed by Panini Publishing Ltd, this 40 page sticker book was edited and designed by Vici MacDonald with Writers Lola Borg, Chris Heath,

Ro Newton, Sylvia Patterson and William Shaw.

The Sticker book had 200 individual pictures that you can stick into the book.  This built up to a collection of the biggest acts of that year which included Frankie Goes To Hollywood, Madonna, Wham and Spandau Ballet to name a few. This Sticker Book came with a free Poster for you to put the final 20 stickers onto.

Some artists, for instance Duran Duran and A-Ha got 2 pages or 1 whole page of stickers while other artists only had One Sticker to place into the book.

Each Sticker Book was printed by Figurine Panini in Italy for the UK and Ireland market with Sticker Packs costing 20p for a set of Five Stickers.  Readers were encouraged to buy as many packs as they could to complete the collection and were also encouraged to swap duplicates with their friends.

After all this if you still could not complete your collection then you could write to Panini Stickers in London requesting the ones you need, up to a maximum 20 stickers, which would cost 5p for each sticker.  If, for whatever reason you missed getting the book, you could purchase one for the price of 25p.

As part of Panini's 10th Anniversary Celebration, readers were encouraged to help with The Cystic Fibrosis Charity.  To help you were encouraged to send in 25 empty wrappers which Panini would then donate 12 and a half pence to the charity.  You would also receive a special Panini 10th Anniversary Cystic Fibrosis Badge.

A note for people collecting these Sticker Books (or any type of Sticker Books).

The rules are that each Sticker book needs to be clear of any stickers to gain it's maximum value.

Any stickers that are put into the book will reduce it's monetary value.  It is best to collect the stickers and keep them separate in a clear plastic wallet.  However it does not stop people from collecting the Sticker Books that are complete as it is still fun to see the pictures in them.
