Stickerbook
Smash Hits produced a Sticker Book that was given away free in the 9th March - 22nd March 1988 issue.
The same issue also came with a free set of stickers to start the readers into collecting the stickers required to complete the book.
Each sticker measured approx. 4" x 3" in size and came with a peel off sticker with a picture of an artist or band on the front. On the back of each sticker was a short biography of the artist or band on the front.
Produced for the Smash Hits Magazine and Distributed by Panini Publishing Ltd, this 48 page sticker book was Edited and Designed by Vici MacDonald with Caption Research done by
Sue Miles and Writers by Lola Borg, Sue Dando, Chris Heath, Richard Lowe and Sylvia Patterson.
The Sticker book had 200 individual pictures that you can stick into the book. This built up to a collection of the biggest acts of that year which included Pet Shop Boys, Terrence Trent D'Arby, Wet Wet Wet and Michael Jackson to name a few. This particular Sticker book also came with a free Pull Out Poster that you could also stick the last 18 stickers to.
Some artists, for instance 'A-Ha and Wet Wet Wet', got a whole page of stickers while other artists only had One Sticker to place into the book.
Each Sticker Book was printed by Redwood Web Offset in the UK and was produced for the UK and Ireland market with Sticker Packs costing 20p for a set of Five Stickers. Readers were encouraged to buy as many packs as they could to complete the collection. Readers were also encouraged to swap duplicates with their friends.
After all this if you still could not complete your collection then you could write to Panini Stickers in London requesting the ones you need, up to a maximum 20 stickers (5 maximum for Poster), which would cost 6p for each sticker. If, for whatever reason, you missed out on getting the book you could buy it at the cost of 35p.

Happy Reading
Australian Version
Photographers:
About the same time as the UK Version of the Sticker Book was released the sister publication Smash Hits Australia also released the Sticker Book.
There is not much difference in the two versions. The main difference is in the Publishing Credits Info. Not sure which issue this was attached to. If anyone has that information (or can scan the issue or any other issues of the Smash Hits Australia) then please get in touch.
Thank you.

A note for people collecting these Sticker Books (or any type of Sticker Books).
The rules are that each Sticker book needs to be clear of any stickers to gain it's maximum value.
Any stickers that are put into the book will reduce it's monetary value. It is best to collect the stickers and keep them separate in a clear plastic wallet. However it does not stop people from collecting the Sticker Books that are complete as it is still fun to see the pictures in them.
Thank you to creamofcardstv for the use of the videos. Don't forget to check out their YouTube page.
