1990 Stickerbook
4th April 1990
Smash Hits produced a Sticker Book that was given away free in the 4th April - 17th April 1990 issue. The same issue also came with a free set of stickers to start the readers into collecting the stickers required to complete the book.
Each sticker measured approx 4" x 3" in size and came with a peel off sticker with a picture of an artist or band on the front. On the back of each sticker was a short biography of the artist or band on the front.
Produced for the Smash Hits Magazine and Distributed by Panini Publishing Ltd, this 36 page sticker book was designed by Red Wood Design and had 120 individual pictures that you can stick into the book. This built up to a collection of the biggest acts of that year which included A-Ha, Bros, New Kids On The Block and Jason Donovan to name a few.
Some artists, for instance 'New Kids On The Block', got 2 pages or 1 whole page of stickers while other artists only had One Sticker to place into the book.
Each Sticker Book was printed by Panini Publishing in Italy for the UK and Ireland market with Sticker Packs costing 25p for a set of Five Stickers. Readers were encouraged to buy as many packs as they could to complete the collection. Readers were also encouraged to swap duplicates with their friends.
After all this if you still could not complete your collection then you could write to Panini Stickers in London requesting the ones you need, up to a maximum 25 stickers, which would cost 8p for each sticker. If, for whatever reason, you missed your free Sticker Book you could buy a copy for 40p

A note for people collecting these Sticker Books (or any type Sticker Books).
The rules are that each Sticker book needs to be clear of any stickers to gain it's maximum value.
Any stickers that are put into the book will reduce it's monetary value.
It is best to collect the stickers and keep them separate in a clear plastic wallet.
However it does not stop people from collecting the Sticker Books that are complete as it is still fun to see the pictures in them.
