1983 - Yearbook

In November / December 1982 Britain's most poplar music magazine 'Smash Hits' released their first Yearbook.  This Yearbook was for the year 1983. 

 

Published by Smash Hits it was printed by East Midlands Litho Printers.

 

The Yearbook was mainly written by David Hepworth, Mark Ellen and Ian Birch.

Designed by Steve Bush, David Bostock, Kimberley Leston, while other Contributors were Linda Duff, Bev Hillier, Peter Strong and Neil Tennent.

 

The Yearbook was Edited by Neil Tennant who went onto to work at Smash Hits as the features editor before leaving to set up the group Pet Shop Boys.

 

The 1983 Yearbook featured Special Features, Colour Pictures, Star Contributions, Inside Information and a 1983 Day By Day Diary.

Neil Tennant

In 1982, Neil Tennant was drafted in to work on the magazine as the Editor for the upcoming 1983 Year Book and the magazine's Features Editor.

On Thursday 20th December 2012, BBC Radio 4 broadcast a program interviewing Neil Tennant about his time On Smash Hits, and his role in the 'Christmas From The Stars' Flexi-disc. Below is the interview.
