I grew up reading the Smash Hits in the UK.  However it wasn't until years later that I found out that the magazine was published in other countries.

The American edition of Smash Hits began at the end of January 1984 as a Monthly release and was Published by Pilot Communications.  The magazine was entitled 'Star Hits' due to another magazine having the Smash Hits title.  Star Hits Magazine blended some of the content from it's parent publication but included material specific for the US market.
